Swiggy Sponsored Shark Tank 4, Strategically Removed Deepinder Goyal
Shark Tank, a sensational television show aired on Sony TV, is coming back soon with its season 4. In season 3, Deepinder Goyal, the co-founder and CEO of Zomato who joined the Shark Panel, gained tremendous popularity for his unmatched questioning, visionary thinking, and fair judgements. However, in Season 4, Goyal will be missing from the Shark Panel as the Zomato’s biggest competitor, Swiggy, who sponsored Season 4 excludes him from the panel strategically.
Swiggy and Zomato are the leading food delivery apps in India. However, equally popular, Zomato and Swiggy are sworn rivals who always indulged in the game of thrones. After this move, the rivalry between the two is expected to run deep.
Shark Tank Season 4 is about to feature Anupam Mittal (Founder & CEO of India’s pioneering matrimonial app Shadi.com), Aman Gupta (Co-Founder & CMO of boAT), Peyush Bansal (Co-Founder & CEO of Lenskart), Namita Thapar (Executive Director of Emcure Pharmaceuticals), Ritesh Aggarwal (Founder & Group CEO of OYO), and Kunal Bahl (Co-founder of Snapdeal and Titan Capital).
Spanpdeal & Titan Capital’s Co-founder Kunal Bahl to Replace Deepinder Goyal
Kunal Bahl, the Co-founder of one of the oldest E-Commerce businesses in India, Snapdeal, has been confirmed as the Replacement of Deepinder Goyal on Shark Tank. Apart from co-founding Snapdeal, Bahl also holds a strong reputation as a leading early-stage investor. He also co-founded a renowned early-stage venture capital firm in India, Titan Capital. Titan Capital has confirmed that Kunal Bahl joins the Shark Panel through its X (formerly Twitter) account.
Swiggy-Shark Tank Deal: A Strategic Move Pre-IPO
Zomato held an IPO 3 years back in 2021 and closed at a gigantic amount of over INR 935 billion. According to the news reports, competitor Swiggy eyes for an IPO of worth INR 104 billion in 2024. As a result, it strategically sponsored Shark Tank Season 4 to cut on the growing popularity of Zomato’s Co-Founder & CEO. This move has not only intensified the rivalry between the two Food Delivery Apps but also gave Swiggy quick publicity before IPO.
As Swiggy sponsors Shark Tank for INR 250 Million, it is likely to attract huge investments and quick sale of IPO shares from the public. However, both Swiggy and Zomato have a great fan base. Eventually, the removal of Goyal might also attract negative publicity for Swiggy.
Goyal admitted in one of his interviews, “Swiggy sponsored Shark Tank Season 4, Consequently, I was ‘kicked out’ of the Sharks Panel.” However, Goyal has also admitted that he is quite ‘positive’ towards Swiggy’s pragmatic approach pre-IPO and comments, “It’s good for the sectors to have multiple companies. But I do not know anything else, we will focus on our own jobs.”
