Generic image APIs return generic labels. They will tell you a photograph contains a shoe. They will not tell you it is your SKU 4471 in the discontinued colourway.
Define the taxonomy before touching a model
Most classification projects stall because two people label the same image differently and nobody noticed.
We start by writing the taxonomy precisely: what distinguishes each class, what happens with ambiguous cases, whether multiple labels can apply. Then we test it — several annotators label the same sample independently and we measure agreement.
Low agreement means the taxonomy is unclear, and no model will resolve what humans cannot. Fixing that first is faster than discovering it after three training runs.
